The Citywide Prayer Movement of Kansas City: “Serving a Company of Thirsty Hearts” “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.” —Psalm 63:1 Our Mission: To promote UNITY among pastors, leaders and believers through building COVENANT FRIENDSHIPS, COMPASSION-BASED PARTNERSHIPS and PERSISTENT PRAYER for revival and transformation of our communities in the Kansas City region. The Citywide Prayer Movement of Kansas City The board members, pastors and people of prayer connected to CPM are living in pursuit of the fullness of all that Jesus Christ has for our city and region. We are contending for revival in the church and spiritual awakening in our region that will bring transformation to every structure of our society. We believe unity of purpose and heart are demonstrated through building covenant friendships, persitant prayer and compassion based partnerships. These are key ingredients that attract the presence of God and transforming revival. - Unity of purpose and heart: The consuming desire of Jesus Christ was that all believers would be united together as one with Himself and with the Father (John 17:21) The 120 believers in the upper room were united in one accord and steadfast in prayer (Acts 1:14) The deep longing of the Apostle Paul from a Roman prison was that we would be united in love and purpose (Phil 2:2)
- Abounding in love: We believe the kingdom of God is advancing through loving friendships. Here in KC the Citywide Prayer Movement is seeking to develop deep kingdom friendships that can sustain all the pressures of the journey ahead in pursuit of the fullness of Christ’s purpose for our city. We know we will experience opposition from our Enemy and possible setbacks on the way. Loving Christ filled friendships can sustain these pressures over the long haul. Paul prayed in Philippians 1:9 that “love would abound still more and more” and again in 2:4, “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself…” We believe this quality of love is a supernatural work of the Spirit and we live in pursuit of this love between pastors and leaders around the region.
- Compassion-Based Partnerships: It is the desire of the Citywide Prayer Movement to be a catalyst in connecting kingdom minded friends, churches and ministries to partner in compassionate outreach to the poor, the broken and the lost of our region, our nation and around the world. Our lives have been impacted by the compassionate and humble ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ, and we find a mandate throughout Scripture to give our time and resources to complete His Great Commission here on earth. (Matthew 28:18-20; Matthew 22:37-39; Isaiah 58:10; Jeremiah 7:5; Acts 4:34-35; James 1:26)
- Desperate Persistent Prayer: This is the type of prayer that moves heaven and the Bible is filled with examples of this quality of prayer….The desperate widow in Luke 18:1-8…the man desperate for bread in Luke 11:5…Hannah in 1 Samuel 1 …David in Psalm 27:4, 42:1-2, 63:1-5, etc…Mary at the feet of Jesus in John 12:1, Luke 7:37, Mark 14:9, Matthew 26:6. We believe this quality of prayer is only cultivated through deep intimacy with Jesus, gazing on His glory and beauty, basking in the overwhelming love and delights of the Father, and spending significant time with other leaders and believers with like hearts. Prolonged exposure to the splendor and majesty of Jesus with the irrational, unconditional, extravagant love of the Father ignites desperate prayer and boundless longing for more of God’s Manifest Presence and deeper intimacy with Him.
The Citywide Prayer Movement is seeking to build unity among pastors and leaders and people of prayer from across all denominations, races and worship styles across the KC region to fulfill the deep longing of the Son of God.
We believe the Spirit of God is raising up a company of thirsty hearts in this hour. This is a people who will not give in to the status quo, but will press in to the fullness of God’s heart for our city. This company is longing for deeper intimacy with Jesus, greater unity across the body of Christ and unprecedented revival and awakening in our region. These are the people the Citywide Prayer Movement is seeking to serve…… Igniting a contagious desperation for God’s manifest presence to come to inhabit our city among all the friends of Christ across all races and denominations
